Canvas

A canvas is a live surface an agent writes and keeps current: a dashboard of this week’s pipeline, a status board for an incident, a brief for a meeting. Where a report is a record that accumulates, a canvas is one view that the agent updates in place.

You see canvases on the agent’s Canvas tab and in the Workspace rail’s Canvas tab. During a voice call, the agent draws on its canvas while it talks.

Just ask in chat: “Put a dashboard of open deals by stage on your canvas”. The agent builds it and tells you. Ask for changes the same way — the agent patches only the blocks that changed, and the header shows when it was last updated.

Every agent already knows how to build canvases; you don’t need to install a skill.

A canvas is an ordered list of blocks:

BlockUse
kpiHeadline numbers with labels and trends
tableRows and columns; cells support inline Markdown
chartBar, stacked bar, line, area, pie or donut charts
timelineEvents in order
markdownFormatted text
htmlCustom layouts using the built-in design kit
imageImages
diagramMermaid diagrams
jsonStructured data

Blocks are styled by a platform design kit so they look right in light and dark mode. Content that can’t be rendered (a chart with no data, a diagram that doesn’t parse) shows a contained error instead of disappearing.

A canvas can use a starter layout with named slots:

LayoutSlots
dashboardheader · kpis · main + side · footer
reportheader · summary · body · figures · appendix
briefheader · key-points + body
status-boardheader · status · issues + next · log

An agent can keep several named canvases (up to 100). The default canvas is main. Pick between them from the dropdown above the canvas; pinned canvases come first. In the Workspace, the canvas you have open is the one the agent means by “this”.

  • Operator audience (default): visible on the agent’s page to people who manage it.
  • Roster audience: also visible in the Workspace to everyone the agent is shared with, including external clients.

Ask the agent to “share this canvas with the team” to widen its audience. Canvases can also be shared and saved as PDF.

Agents write canvases with the set_canvas and patch_canvas MCP tools. See MCP tools.
